- best friends to lovers trope! (I'm forever a sucker for this)
- female MC is is a WOC (she's Jamaican-American)
- male MC is a kleptomaniac (Luka is a precious cinnamon roll)
- strong!! family!! relationship!! (I'm forever weak in this department)
- Krista and Becca are two of my all-time favorite and trusted authors and not one book of theirs has let me down yet

02. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
— January 31, 2017

- protagonist wants to see Caraval, a show where the audience could participate
- her sister helped her escape so she could see the said show
- unfortunately, her sister got kidnapped as part of Caraval's game
- and if said sister is found, then whoever found her is the winner
- lots of magic
- sisterhood (like I said in Infini above, I'm weak for this kind of stuff)

03. Wintersong by S. Jae Jones
— February 07, 2017

- I was too late to get an ARC for this so... *cries*
- it's a Labyrinth retelling
- protagonist loves writing songs and the Goblin King is her muse
- "a life for a life", protagonist agrees to marry the Goblin King in exchange for her sister's freedom
- Marie Lu enjoyed and loved this, and I trust her review 

04. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
— February 07, 2017

- IMPORTANT
- protagonist's best friend was shot to death by a police officer
- inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement
- serious issues that's happening in society will be tackled for sure
- is definitely going to be sending out a deep message for the readers
- this is actually optioned for a movie already though?

05. The Ship Beyond Time by Heidi Heilig
— February 28, 2017

- sequel to The Girl from Everywhere
- we got pirates here
- and we also got time-traveling
- I hope my ship sails... (not talking about the one you ride on the water)
- I was happy to know that there's a sequel because the first book's ending left me with some questions

06. Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
— March 07, 2017

- sequel to Rebels of the Sand
- the first book was really, really promising
- we got magic, legends, prince, princesses, and Djinnis
- the cute romance in the first book had me wanting more
- lots of interesting characters that possess their own power
- friendships (this is another thing I love reading about)
- there's that "who to trust" thing

07. Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
— April 04, 2017

- when Jenny Han dropped the cake picture on twitter, I almost cried
- let this be a good conclusion to Lara Jean's story and I just want everyone to be happy
- please let there be more baking
- and more of the precious Song Sisters, please
- Peter Kavinsky. That's it.

08. Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh
— May 02, 2017

- the one who brought us The Wrath and the Dawn is now bringing us another series(?) set in feudal Japan and I'm here for it
- protagonist is ambushed but escaped
- she dresses up as a boy to learn about the people who wanted to kill her
- a mash-up of Mulan and 47 Ronin
- if there's romance, I wonder if it's gonna be an enemies-to-lovers trope

09. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
— May 30, 2017

- two Indian-Americans and an arranged marriage
- male MC is a hopeless romantic
- female MC is not and just wants a break from her family
- their families are sending them both to the same summer program
- figured this is going to be a light, romantic YA read and I need that
- also how precious is that cover? *heart eyes emoji*

10. I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo
— May 30, 2017

- female MC is a NBSB (No Boyfriend Since Birth)
- sucks at romance and can't flirt to save her life
- starts watching Korean dramas in hopes to learn about the romance
- actually uses the things she learned from the K-dramas

Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read For The  First Time In 2016

*I'll be starting from 10 here.
**Some of these authors aren't really new to me. I've heard/seen them around but I never given the chance to check out their works until this year.

10. M. Hollis - This recently debuted author published her book The Melody of You and Me and it was one of the cutest reads for me this year. Hollis delivered a good F/F story not just on the romantic side but also making you admire her characters as they talk about the things they're passionate about and how they're so in love that it makes you go awww nonstop.

09. Alwyn Hamilton - First of all, congratulations to Alwyn Hamilton for winning Goodreads' Debut Goodreads Author! Rebel of the Sands was a great start for a series...? I still have no clue of this is going to be a duology or trilogy or saga or something. But all I know is that her debut novel kicked off to a start that had me wanting more of it. We're talking about magic here. Jinnis to be exact.

08. Melissa Landers - Starflight was recommended by a friend and I needed a good sci-fi book to read after The Lunar Chronicles so I went for it. After I read the book, I visited her profile and landed on her works. Alienated was one of them. I've heard the book so many times in Booktube that it actually surprised me that these two books are by the same author. I've been wanting to read Alienated but never got the chance...or time, I don't really know why.

07. Heidi Heilig - If not for The Book Voyagers' #amazingbookrace and Keep It Diverse's book of the month on Twitter, I would've never picked up The Girl From Everywhere this year. It was my first pirate book and another thing to add in my time-travel shelf. There's also going to be a sequel so you can definitely say I'll be reading it once it's out.

06. Mariana Zapata - I gotta hand it to her for the ever so slow-burn romance in her books. I've read Kulti and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me this year and sports sports sports!! (I love sports though and bonus points if the female protagonist actually plays) and if the tension between the two characters...and that WHEN ARE THEY GONNA KISS feeling. Yes, the author makes you feel that until who-knows-when while you're reading.

05. Melissa de la Cruz - I've seen her around: across the internet, the bookstores, even on TV (eye emoji at Disney's Descendants). This year, I've picked up my first book of hers: Something in Between. I'll be honest, the story was honestly realistic and it's actually based also on the author's experience but I wasn't into her writing. It felt flat to me but I really, REALLY, appreciate her for sharing what she went through by writing this book. I've had family members who are immigrants and their stories aren't as different as the protagonist's so this book is an eye-opener. Just that...the writing wasn't my cup of tea, sadly.

04. Nicola Yoon - I just read Everything Everything last month and I am impressed. I've discovered her through the numerous tweets about The Sun is Also a Star so I checked her GR profile and immediately went for EE first. I fell in love with the book and THERE PAGES WITH DOODLES! It really made the book so cute and so worthwhile reading. Now I'm all here for her other works.

03. Con Template - Many thanks to The Book Voyagers for creating a thread of diverse books and Con Template's work caught my attention: Welcome to the Underworld (have yet to make a series review for this). Now this series has made its home in my heart and I gotta give it to the author because this was a "fanfic series turned to published book series". Talk about achievement. I read fanfics and it's rare to find fics with a very interesting plot. That series belonged to the rarity, I had to give it to Con Template for putting me on the edge of my seat many times.

02. Mina V. Esguerra - As a Filipina, I was looking for Filipinx authors because I wanted to give my support to the local authors. So I searched for lists and I found a bunch of Esguerra's works (especially her Interim Goddess of Love - which was cute and have a pinch of Filipino mythology bits in it) her in the list so why not? I needed a good book with a Filipinx rep in it and her books are it. Plus, she recommends other Filipinx authors with their works too.

01. Melina Marchetta - I devoured her books this year. I've seen Finnikin of the Rock around in Goodreads, it was even recommended to me THRICE. But I never really had this...pull, to read it. I've known her for On the Jellicoe Road but it was when my Twitter timeline (or let's say my mutuals) were tweeting about a good fantasy series and kept bringing up Lumatere. I had no idea what Lumatere was so I searched it on GR and it's the name of the series and the first book is Finnikin of the Rock. So I finally picked it up, thanks to Twitter, and I got hooked. I've read her other books and I recently reviewed Saving Francesca. I've read majority of her books and I can say that this author has not yet disappointed me.

Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Fantasy Books

[ Trilogies Edition! ]

01. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare - ALL TIME FAVORITE TRILOGY EVER. And definitely one of my all time favorite fantasy books as well. I don't think I'll ever recover from this. Already excited for The Last Hours!

02. Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta - Hands down to Melina Marchetta for this trilogy. I'm planning to read ALL her books this year and I just had to give it to her for her awesome and heart-grabbing stories. These books have entered my all time favorites list and every reread is a treat.

03. Penryn and the End of Days by Susan Ee - This trilogy had me on the crying despite how (warning to the ones who plan to read this) gore some stuff were. The sibling relationship between Penryn and Paige made this book so worth the time. Of course, Penryn and Raffe's banter was A+.

04. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo  - I love the Grisha world and I love the characters in this book that the main female lead, Alina Starkov, has poked my heart and now she's one of my all-time favorite heroines.

05. Blood of Eden Trilogy by Julie Kagawa - We got a badass female lead who is a WOC and a story that's centered in a world where vampires are either good or evil. I'll be honest, I'm not into vampire books but this one is an exception.

06. Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor - The world and characters are too fascinating so props to Laini Taylor for her imagination and beautiful writing. This is one of the books I want to reread if only I have the time.

07. Curse Workers Trilogy by Holly Black - One of the many underrated fantasy books out there that I enjoy SO MUCH. I have to thank Katytastic from Booktube for introducing me to this series.

08. Precious Stone Trilogy by Kerstin Gier - The time traveling was and written well. There are some stories out there with the same concept yet it's all too confusing. Also, THE MOVIE WAS GOOD. It didn't really follow the flow of the books (+the many changes, though I can say this to all book-to-movie adaptations) but it was still entertaining to watch and the soundtrack makes my ears happy.


NOTES:

**Why trilogies? - I have A LOT of favorite all time fantasy books and this could definitely take a while. So... I decided to narrow it down to trilogies.

***09-10 - I have two trilogies I haven't finished yet so I'm keeping the last two spots open. I have to read the final books in these trilogies to see if I can put them in the list.

Ten Ten Favorite 2016 Releases So Far This Year

01. Some Kind Of Perfect by Krista & Becca Ritchie (May 20, 2016) - definitely one of my most awaited releases of 2016 and the last installment to my favorite New Adult series, Addicted and Calloway Sisters. I'll forever miss these six characters' point of views whom have taken residence in my heart now (TRUTH)... now on to their kids!

02. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (March 8, 2016) - Never thought I'd pick up another Shadowhunter book and as much as I wasn't planning to, I did... and once again, Cassie Clare had me hooked and protective over the Blackthorn kids.

03. The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh (April 26, 2016) - One of my favorite retellings and one of my anticipated releases of the year. Loved it but also sad that this is the sequel and the last book.

04. A Court Of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (May 3, 2016) - Not a fan of SJM's TOG books and I also never planned on reading ACOTAR...but I did. I was hesitant because I was "spoiled" (but not detailed) that there was some changes so I put the first book on-hold for so long. But I'm glad I picked it up and gave it a go because this book was just... amazing. I loved it.

05. The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury (February 23, 2016) - Another favorite retelling and it's also the author's debut novel so I recommend this one because it's magical, if you're in for a cute romance you got it, girls fighting side by side and again, magical.

06. The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski (March 29, 2016) - Another last book to one of my favorite series. This is one of the beautifully-written Young Adult books out there and you gotta hand it to the protagonist because her smarts is just admirable.

07. Starflight by Melissa Landers (February 2, 2016) - First time reading a Melissa Landers book and she had me loving it. Space adventures had never been this fun. Oh and you'll definitely love the banter of the two main characters.

08. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (May 3, 2016) - I've mentioned Amy & Roger's Epic Detour lots of times in my blog so I was also eager to pick another one of Morgan Matson's books and I have to say that I wasn't let down... and please, there are puppies!

09. Coast by Jay McLean (June 7, 2016) - Second installment to the Kick, Push duology and I can't tell you how much I cried reading the first book, how it broke my heart and how much I love the characters. So when I finished it, I immediately wanted this sequel.

10. Shameless by Lex Martin (April 26, 2016) - New Adult is one of my reading preferences and Lex Martin is one of those authors I trust after I read Dearest Clementine. This was just too cute but also tugs your heart in an emotional sense. Humor and hotness are bonus points

I HAVE READ THESE BOOKS:

01. A Magic Dark & Bright by Jenny Adams Perinovic - scrolled through Amazon and I found one of my favorite reads of the year. It's about a girl who keeps seeing the Woman in White, a creepy house next door, mysterious deaths and lots of magic. I have a review of this here.

02. The Other Side Of Gravity by Shelly Crane - it's all about the gravity~ it also looked pretty at the bookstore. Sadly, I didn't enjoy it much and it was kind of... missing the plot (idk how to properly explain it). BUT--I do want to read the second book for some reason. Still, give it a try if you want :)

03. Fall From Love by Heather London - a love story that's complicated all because of a tragic incident. Never heard of this author and book but thanks to Tumblr I stumbled on a New Adult stand-alone favorite.

04. The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry - went to GR's YA new releases I got this: a girl starts seeing different things and she met this boy.. that's all I got from the summary. I've had this in my TBR for a while now and I did start this but I have it on-hold since I kinda lost the excitement to read this one.

05. Starflight by Melissa Landers - got too deep in some YA list and I stumbled to this. Sci-Fi goodness...and to think I'm not really into that genre. I just finished reading this and it's also one of the books I enjoyed this year.. and I never knew the author was also the author of Alienated (haven't read that).

I HAVE NOT READ THESE BOOKS BUT I PLAN TO:

01. Vassa In the Night by Sarah Porter - got this from Readers Also Enjoyed section and the protagonist here is sent on a suicide mission by her stepsister but she's got this talking doll from her dead mom as her good luck charm. Also, "Inspired by the Russian folktale Vassilissa the Beautiful" so it's a retelling and I love retellings.

02. I Woke Up Dead at the Mall by Judy Sheehan - the title pretty much said it which had my interest in the first place THEN the summary. I was viewing a fantasy book and I kept clicking the books in the Readers Also Enjoyed section (and the books under that and so on and forth) until I got deep... to this.

03. Will You Won't You Want Me by Nora Zelevansky - same with #2, the title caught my attention and again, from the Readers Also Enjoyed section. The summary's a lot to take in but I find myself wanting to read it.

04. Dreaming Of Antigone by Robin Bridges - The pretty and starry cover won me when I was scrolling through Amazon. And twin sisters, one died and the other who lived is blaming the boyfriend of her dead sister. That's all I got from this YA contemporary but I want to give it a try even though this kind of trope isn't a first for me.

05. The Way I Used To Be by Amber Smith - saw this at the bookstore's New Releases shelf and it's about high school student who is also a rape victim. The summary in GR was short but I feel like this is going to be an emotional one for me.

Top Ten Bookworm Delights

01. Release date of the book that you've been waiting for: There's nothing like the feeling of finally reading the book/sequel that you've been anticipating for so long. Especially if you have the physical copy because it's right here, in your hands, it's there.

02. Bookmarks: they're our trusted friends whenever we need to take a break from reading. And I don't know about you but I'm one of those people who love collecting bookmarks.

03. Picturing what you're reading in your head: when you started reading and your theatrical imagination starts creating a movie in your head and it gets real when you finally know what the characters' look like, the settings look like... and then you get lost in Fiction Land.

04. Reading on rainy days: I'm a rainy day person as long as I don't have any schedule that involves going outside the house. It's also my favorite time to read (and sleep) because it calms me down and makes it easier for me to process whatever it is that's going on in the story.

05. Books with pretty covers: I admit that I do judge a book by its cover... sometimes. There are just those books with eye-catching covers that draw you in even though you have no idea what's it about. I love having them in my shelf (bonus points if they have pretty spines!)

06. Positive feedback after recommending a book: don't you just love it when you get a very good response from the person who recommended a book to? When they go "I LOVED IT!" (yes, in caps lock because they're filled with emotions) and you wanna pat yourself on the back for a job well done on recommending.

07. Trip to the bookstore: whether you're there to buy a book or not, it's ALWAYS a delight for us bookworms to step into the bookstore and see what titles are on display.

08. Reading without getting interrupted: I don't know how many times I've been interrupted and it always cuts me from the magic that's in the story. So it's a delight for me to read straight from the start to whatever page I stop without the disturbance of people and stuff.

09. Completing a great series: there's that feeling of sadness and happiness after THE END and for me, I always find the delight in being a part of the characters' lives and living in their world through my head until the end, despite how sad it makes me sometimes that there's no more book after that.

10. Rereading a favorite: we all have favorite books that we want to reread and when we finally get the time to sit down and start it again, we experience that feeling of what it was like the first time and how the story made us laugh/happy/cry. There's that nostalgic feeling especially if you haven't read the book in months/years and knowing how attached you were to it makes the rereading worthwhile.

10. My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Wanga

You know those moments in life when you thought you just don't know anymore? Like you have no idea what to do or life has brought too much on you and it's already hard to get through it? But then, something changed and you have this determination to live on and move forward. Something that brings you back to the surface and gives you a reason to not give up. These are two of my favorites ever and I definitely recommend this because it's actually really good and somehow, you get inspired by the journey through life these characters had.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Will Make You Swoon

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. A meme where you will post your top ten of everything that's been asked here, depending on the date. Today, books that will make you swoon. Here are my picks and this isn't in order.

01. The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4) by Richelle Mead - I've mentioned my love for this series so many times but I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. I was torn between this and The Indigo Spell (book 3) but so many Sydrian (Sydney/Adrian) scenes here were swoon-worthy. Especially during Sydney's birthday :')

02. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - Who wouldn't swoon while reading AATFK? Almost every scene with Anna and Etienne in this book makes one's knees go jelly.

03. Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer - I just read Scarlet last week and I am definitely in love with Wolf and Scarlet. All that "alpha" thing was sweet and precious. They're a match.

04. Wait For You by Jennifer L. Armentrout (J. Lynn) - Same with TFH, I've mentioned this in a lot of memes and this is one of the few New Adult books I've loved so much.

05. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick - Every time Jase and Sam are together, I can't hide my grin. They're adorable together and Jase's little brother such a cutie that sometimes he puts the two in an awkward situation and it's funny.

06. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson - Two people, a road trip, a love that was slowly built along the road. This quickly went to my favorites list and it's such a good book. A perfect one for a road trip too.

07. The DUFF by Kody Keplinger - I don't know but I just happen to swoon because Wes is actually a sweet guy despite the reputation people claim him to have? He's actually nice to Bianca and this book made me cry. Worth the jelly-like-knees and the watery eyes.

08. Fall From Love by Heather London - Another one of the books that I have loved very much. Carter and Holly's friendship/relationship was so wonderful to read and how the romance was built wasn't rushed.

09. Reboot (Reboot, #1) by Amy Tintera - This one's a Dystopian novel and it's by far, the romance in it was one of the sweetest ones I've read. Callum's just adorable and such a sweet guy and I can't blame Wren for falling for him.

10. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan - This one's perfect for Christmas. Short and heart-warming but at the same time, swoon-worthy too even though more than half of the books, Dash and Lily aren't even together...yet.

There goes ten of the books that made me swoon. I got a lot more in my list because I'm a big fan of the chick-lit type of books (though other genres are also capable of making me swoon). I want to add this so bad but I don't think I could consider it as a book. If you read The Iron Fey Series by Julie Kagawa (and liked/loved it), you might want to check this one out(if you haven't yet). Top Ten Tuesday: Best Sequels

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme started by The Broke and the Bookish. A meme where you will post your top ten of everything that's been asked here, just take note of the date.

Like the rest of the memes here, this is my first Top Ten Tuesday post and I'm excited to do the rest of the rest! I find this meme fun and a good way of recommending books to others.

Top Ten Best Sequels for August 24, 2013 (not really in order because I love these books too much)

01. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling - I love every HP book but this one holds a special place in my heart when I was a kid (until now) but hey, every HP book is amazing and gets better and better.

02. The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead - As much as I love The Indigo Spell, this one is still my best pick out of the three because it really showcased how the friendship between Sydney and Adrian grow and how they're there for each other.

03. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - My emotions are all over the place because of this book. I even cried when the trailer came out and now I'm so pumped for November.

04. Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare - When talking about CC's works, I am terribly biased over The Infernal Devices because this trilogy is just wonderful and really plucks out your heartstrings. And CP gave me a roller coaster ride of emotions.

05. The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa - I'm not really saying this is the BEST sequel but what I love about this book was that Meghan seemed to become a more responsible character. I can still remember how much I want to strangle her during the phase of the first book but I ended up liking her in book two and loving her in book three (this one).

06. Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout - I just read the Lux Series this year and I'm hooked. REALLY HOOKED. And so far, Origin's the best among the four.

07. Where She Went by Gayle Forman - This was my first contemporary and I this made me fell in love with contemporary romance and this is also holds a special place in my heart (yeah I'm being cheesy).

08. Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead - Yes, another RM book (I love her books..although I only read VA and BL). This book made me ache inside.

09. Insurgent by Veronica Roth - Divergent was interesting, but this one was MORE interesting.

10. The Percy Jackson books - I love this series a lot. A LOT. And like the HP books, it gets better and the adventures get interesting. I need to start The Heroes of Olympus ASAP.

And there ends my list. Again, they're no in order.

I have so many sequels in my TBR that I've been craving to read soon: The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater (sequel to The Raven Boys); Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi (sequel to Under the Never Sky, will likely read this December); Prodigy by Marie Lu (sequel to Legend) and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (sequel to Cinder). I'm missing a lot....
